A set of two cups and saucers made in Royal Copenhagen, designed by Nils Thorsson and Olaf Mathiesen in 1927-1932, Aluminia Faience soft porcelain series.
The hand-painted design of Danish Royal Copenhagen is simple and fresh. The rabbit and melons belong to the Nordic fairy tale genre and are expressed in a modern style in the Art Deco era.
The cream matte glaze is decorated with dark blue patterns, and the soft porcelain has a warm texture, making it easy to play with.
Different from other products of Royal Copenhagen, this utensil comes from the Aluminia series. At the beginning of its establishment, Aluminia was an independent Danish painted pottery factory. It was founded in 1863 and acquired the Royal Porcelain Factory in 1882. After 1969, the factory was acquired by Royal Copenhagen. The porcelain factory was absorbed and production continued on a small scale under the name Royal Copenhagen.
Nils Thorsson (1898-1975) was a 20th century Scandinavian ceramic master who became the principal designer of the Royal Copenhagen Porcelain Factory in 1912. Working in a uniquely Danish model of simplicity and functionalism, he was also the company's most prolific A designer of painted patterns for pottery products, his works are collected by the Victoria and Albert Museum and the British Museum.
