Lino Sabattini was born on September 23, 1925 in Correggio (Reggio Emilia), Italy. At the age of fourteen, he worked in a brassware shop in Como. This choice led him to an issue of Gio Ponti's design magazine "Domus", which quickly became his bible and guided his life. Through training in a brass workshop, he quickly mastered metal working techniques.
In an old mill on the shores of Lake Como, he met Rolando Hettner, who created extremely refined ceramics, paintings, and was a master of existential tension, encouraging destructive artistic projects.
At the age of thirty, Sabattini moved to Milan and established a small studio in a basement, which led to closer ties with the architecture and design magazine Domus. Until one day, Gio Ponti showed up at his door. Through seeing and feeling, he finally gave him his first commissioned work. Sabattini completed the work in just three days. Ponti was amazed by his talent, and their collaboration and friendship began: the Milan Triennale, the Venice Biennale, articles in the best design and home magazines in the world, and co-organizers in Italy and around the world Solo exhibition.
In 1956, Sabattini caused a sensation with the "Como" serving tea set at the "Italian Forms and Ideas" exhibition in Paris. From 1958 to 1963, he worked for the famous Christofle brand in Paris and Milan, trying to get rid of old, soulless works.
In 1964 he moved to Bregnano, a small town between Como and Milan. With his ideas, sensitivity and diversity he opened his own brand studio, Sabattini Argenteria, where he creates the clearest and most beautiful shapes in silver.
Lino Sabattini participated in a total of six Milan Triennials and won the Gold Medal at the Munich International Fair in 1962 and the Honorary Award from the Milan Compasso d'Or Committee in 1980. His works are exhibited or permanently collected by Moma, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the British Museum, and the Louvre in Paris.
