The Art Nouveau serving tray of the 1920s-30s, the style is also known as Jugendstil in Germany. The nickel-plated frame inlaid with ceramic tray is supported by four spheres at the base, a design typical of the transitional period between Jugendstil and Art Deco.
The ceramic trays are covered with 'Spritz dekor' decoration, a technique invented by ceramic painter Martha Katzer that uses an airbrush to evenly apply glaze. The designs mostly incorporate layered geometric forms and repeating linear patterns. Influenced by the Bauhaus, the geometric aesthetic of this German decorative art was all the rage in the 1930s.
